Benfica Match Issued 1992-93 Home Shirt (#5)(XL)

Authentic and original Benfica home shirt, as used during the 1992-93 season, during which the Portuguese giants would finish second in the Primeira Divisao, finishing the season under the guidance of Portuguese manager, Toni. Shirt is a genuine match issue shirt, and has most likely been issued for Carlos Mozer, the Brazilian starting centre back for Benfica this season.

Before going into the details of Benfica's season, it would be of use to give provenance for match issue - which in this case comes from the number 5 being player sized, and clearly, professionally machine stitched onto the shirt, which is how the numbers were applied on the shirts for this era. Further, the shirt is in a typical player size for this manufacturer and era (Hummel, XL), with the shirt being a genuine match issued piece of history. As was common at the time, no name applied to the shirt, just the number.

Anyway, Benfica would finish 2nd in the league this season, initially beginning the campaign under the guidance of Tomislav Ivic, before the was sacked in October, leading the way for Toni to come to the helm. They would end up two points behind title winners Porto, but would secure some silverware in the form of the Taca de Portugal - defeating Boavista 5-2 in the final.

In Europe, the side would compete in the UEFA Super Cup, reaching the quarter finals with relative ease, before defeating Juventus 2-1 in the first leg of their quarter final, but ultimately losing 3-0 in Italy, and 4-2 on aggregate.

Overall, shirt remains in very good condition. Number is excellent, not as white as it once was of course, but still super. One tiny hole to the arm - I will happily stitch this up at buyers request, however due to shirt being match issue I have left it as is for now, but more than happy to repair upon request. Size XL as mentioned, with measurements provided in pictures.
